Not a lot

Well not a lot to report. We have finalised our flights to Aus. and the internal ones so that's one thing less to worry about. The apartment in Perth has been booked and it looks pretty swish so that should be alright. I don't know if Sonia passing on her panic to me but suddenly there seems to be a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it. She of course will be gone in a few days time. Anyway I shall have to make a list and tick things off as I do them.
It has been upsetting of course to hear about Tammy's baby.We feel very sorry and all our thoughts are in Chicago. I hope by now that there is some good news.
Today is the third time I have tried to make Australian Marmalade. On the first two occasions the marmalade set like rock and I was unable to even cut it with a knife. Today I was determined to do it right but then this lot wouldn't set so I have had to reboil it. Such a faff for so little reward!
The village is very quiet, not a lot happening except the Halloween Ball on Saturday. We have decided not to go this year as last year We couldn't get the fake blood off our faces for days!

Whoops!

Sorry folks. I posted the previous message on the wrong blog.
Yesterday I went to a Lincolnshire womens lunch (Ladies who lunch!!) at the Windmill restaurant at Borough Le marsh. this is supposed to be the best restaurant around these parts and has won restaurant of the year for several years running. Anyway the other ladies assured me that it wasn't a dressing up occasion. It's a good job I didn't believe them. I have never seen so many designer labels under one roof. Imagine 150 "ladies" all trying to nonchalently guess where someones outfit came from and how much it cost!
The food was good. I had Butternut squash soup, Mushroom strganoff with wild rice and raspberry Pavlova. My neighbour bought me some raffle tickets and let me choose the strip of tickets. She won on the tickets I rejected! she won a lovely truckle of cheese and a bottle of wine.
The after dinner speaker was a female Chief Superintendant police officer. She was very funny and obviously good at her job. Her avowed intention is to be the first woman chief constable.
My friend, who has been itching to death for several weeks, was told that she had a problem with her kidneys. on Tuesday she had a scan and the consultant told her that all her symptoms were caused by a build up in her liver and kidneys of the tablets she is taking. Guess what? STATINS!! These tablets are evil and I think it would be better to die of cholestral then die from the side effects of these drugs that are being pushed by doctors for financial gain! Rant over.

Letter

A father passing by his son's bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made, and everything was picked up. Then, he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow. It was addressed, 'Dad.' With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter, with trembling hands.

'Dear, Dad.
It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mum and you.
I've been finding real passion with Stacy, and she is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her, because of all her piercing's, tattoos, her tight Motorcycle clothes, and because she is so much older than I am. But it's not only the passion, Dad. She's pregnant.
Stacy said that we will be very happy.
She owns a trailer in the woods, and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children. Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't, really hurt anyone.

We'll be growing it for ourselves, and trading it with The other people in the commune, for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS, so Stacy can get better. She sure deserves it!!

Don't worry Dad, I'm 15, and I know how to take care of myself. Someday, I'm sure we'll be back to visit, so you can get to know your many grandchildren.

Love your son Joshua.

P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at Jason's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the school report that's on my desk.

Call when it is safe for me to come home.

pipers crisps

Good W.I meeting last night. A man who makes crisps using only local products from around the country. He refuses to allow any supermarkets to sell his crisps and so depends on word of mouth. He sells to local deli's, schools, universities, football clubs etc . He was a very funny speaker and then he gave (25 of us) 500 bags of crisps. I haven't had a crisp for about 5 months so I had to try one. I found that I didn't really like them! The flavours are unusual . Angelsey (wales) sea salt.
Salt and black pepper(india) Bloody Mary (Cumbria) Cheese and onion (Cheddar) Cyder Vinegar (Somerset) etc etc. anyway Andrew will eat them. He has them at university.

slow poisoning

MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as Natural Flavouring.' MSG is even in your favourite coffee from Tim Horton's and Starbucks coffee shops! I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, and so did John Erb, a friend of mine, who was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario , Canada, and spent years working for the government. He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing, The Slow Poisoning of America.

In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so scientists have to create them. They make these creatures morbidly obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first born.

The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats (and perhaps humans) to become obese. They even have a name for the fat rodents they create: 'MSG-Treated Rats.'

I was shocked and checked my cupboards and refrigerator. MSG was in everything -- in Campbell 's soups, Hostess Doritos, Lays flavoured potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, and Kraft salad dressings, especially the 'healthy low-fat' ones.

The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called 'Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein,' which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate, MSG.

It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. MSG is hidden under many different names in order to fool those who read the ingredient list, so that they don't catch on. (Other names for MSG are 'Accent, 'Natural Meat Tenderizer,' etc.)

But it didn't stop there. When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items contained MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG.
But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided sure enough, MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere.

Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant -- even the sit-down eateries like TGIF, Chili's, Applebee's, and Denny's -- use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender : MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin -- their secret spice was MSG!

So why is MSG in so many of the foods we eat? Is it a preservative, or a vitamin?

Not according to my John Erb. In his book The Slow Poisoning of America, he said that MSG is added to food for the 'effect' it has on the human body.

Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more.

A study of the elderly showed that older people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobbying group says eating more is a benefit to the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us?

'Betcha can't eat [just] one,' takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight!

MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance.

Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks, and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.

The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount. But how can they claim it's safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these:

'The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of exercise in obesity.' Gobatto CA, Mello MA, Souza CT , Ribeiro IA. Res Commun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 2002.

'Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-induced hypothalamic serotonin release in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats.' Guimaraes RB, Telles MM, Coelho VB, Mori C, Nascimento CM, Ribeiro. Brain Res Bull. 2002 Aug.

'Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment in spontaneously hypertensive rats: An animal model of multiple risk factors.' Iwase M, Yamamoto M, Iino K, Ichikawa K, Shinohara N, Yoshinari Fujishima. Hypertens Res. 1998 Mar.

'Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection of monosodium glutamate in suckling period and sub- sequent development of obesity.' Tanaka K, Shimada M, Nakao K Kusunoki. Exp Neurol. Oct 1978.

(Hypothalamic dysfunction is a problem with the region of the brain called the hypothalamus, which helps control the pituitary gland and regulate many body functions, particularly in response to stress. The pituitary, in turn, controls the: Adrenal glands, Overies, Testes Thyroid gland)

No, the date of that last study was not a typo...it was published in1978. Both the 'medical research community' and 'food manufacturers' have known about the side effects of MSG for decades.

Many more of the studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG to diabetes, migraines and headaches, autism, ADHD, and even Alzheimer's.

So what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping this fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and additing to the obesity epidemic we now see?

Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in Canada While there the official told him, 'Sure, I know how bad MSG is. I wouldn't touch the stuff.' But this top-level government official refuses to tell the public what he knows.

The 'big media' doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing issues with their advertisers. It seems that the fallout on the fast food industry may hurt their profit margin. The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it. Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive.

This message is going out to everyone I know in an attempt to tell you the truth that the corporate-owned politicians and media won't tell you.

The best way you can help to save yourself and your children from this drug-induced epidemic is to forward this article to everyone. With any luck, it will circle the globe before politicians can pass legislation protecting those who are poisoning us.

The food industry learned a lot from the tobacco industry. Imagine if big tobacco had a bill like this in place before someone blew the whistle on nicotine?

If you are one of the few who can still believe that MSG is good for us and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself. Go to National Library of Medicine at www.pubmed.com. Type in the words 'MSG Obese' and read a few of the 115 medical studies that appear.

We, the public, do not want to be rats in one giant experiment, and we do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, addicted sheep, feeding the food industry's bottom line while waiting for the heart transplant, the diabetic-induced amputation, blindness, or other obesity-induced, life-threatening disorders.

Send this message out by word of mouth, e-mail, or by distribution of this printout to your friends all over the world and stop this 'Slow Poisoning of Mankind' by the packaged food industry

Jam making

I have been very busy jam making all this week in preparation for the arts and crafts fair this weekend. Lets hope I do as well with the jam as I did with the jewellery. On my stall will be jam, bread and butter.
my chickens are not laying very well at the moment but everyone seems to be in the same boat. It's moulting time and although they are eating well all their energy is going into growing new feathers. I keep telling them that they are going on holiday soon!
graham has shot a rat but another one has appeared. They are looking for somewhere to spend the winter now that all the crops have been harvested in the fields. My friend Ian has been shooting pigeons. They have been pooping on him in the garden!
Last night we had a talk from a Reuters Foriegn Correspondence which was quite interesting but our next meeting will be a temptation to me! It's a crisp manufactorer who will bring loads of free samples etc!
must go now. The football is starting. England V Bellarus. It looks as though we are playing a team of ringers.

Jewellery

Yesterday at the village hall we had a sale of "pre loved" jewellery. All the pieces were donated by people who never wore them. I felt like Sandra. I personally took over £100.00 in just under two hours! Is this something you would think of doing Sandra?
nothing much else to report. weather glorious and two lots of washing dried before noon!

I'm back!

It's been strange not having a computer, although I have been allowed to use Grahams laptop providing I didn't do anything on it. Sony didn't have the computer for long,.. 2 days, but every thing had to be put back on. Have I got the best (putative) son in law in the world? I think yes. He has worked so hard to restore everything and put me back into business.
Susan and Trevor have just gone home. We went to Boston for the day and had a good time. We found a new pub in which to have lunch which was cheap and not bad and life has returned to boring!
