Proof that Hell is exothermic

I have just read this in a book and it made me laugh so I hope you will like it.
This was a question in a University of Washington chemistry exam.
"Is hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat) ?
Most students wrote about Boyle's Law: Gas cools off when it expands and heats up when it is compressed. However one student wrote this:-
" First we need to know how the mass of hell is changing in time. So, we need to know the rate that souls are moving into Hell and the rate they are leaving. I think we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering hell, lets look at the different religions that exist in the world today. some of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to hell. Since there are more then one of these religions and since people do not belong to more then one religion, we can project that all people and all souls go to hell. With birth and death rates as they are,we can expect the number of souls in hell to increase exponentially.
Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand as souls are added. This gives 2 possibilities: (1) If Hell is expanding at a slower rate then the rate at which souls enter hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose. (2) Of course, if Hell is expanding at a rate faster then the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over. So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Ms. Therese Banyan during my freshman year, "that will be a cold night in Hell before I sleep with you!" and take into account the fact that I still have not succeeded in having sexual relations with her, then (2) cannot be true and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic"

This student recieved the only A.

jam today

I have been very busy making jam. First was 12 jars of Bramble Jelly made from Annes blackberries. God what a job picking them! Why is it that nettles always grow near Blackberries? When I bent over to pick up the carton I was nettled on my bum! Ouch!
Next we went to the other neighbours and collected loads of Crab apples from which I have made 12 jars of Crab Apple Jelly. Then it was Runner Beans. I have just bought a W.I book of preserves so had a go at Runner Bean Pickle. It's lovely and goes well on a sandwich with cheese etc. I think thats it for a while (unless someone else gives me something!)
Jean and Norman are coming on Saturday and then on Tuesday we are having a litter pick in the village. Thats all thats happening for now.

Sunny day

It's a lovely sunny day so naturally there are things to be done indoors! Except that I have to keep going into the front garden to remove certain hens. It's amazing .They have got a back garden and a 5 acre field to go at but they will insist on going through the hedge and digging up my flowers. They have even found a very large pigeon egg in a flower bed.Graham thought of getting a ladder and putting it back in the nest but I have persuaded him that it's probably not worth the effort. Besides we all know about his track record with ladders.
We have not watched any olympics. Can't be bothered with it now that it's so far removed from the original ideal. It's probably going to bankrupt Britain when we do the games, especially if we try to put on a show comparable to the Chinese.
Have just spoken to Jean. Apparently she was savaged by an alsation dog on Sunday when they were at their caravan at Skegness. It bit her on her Left leg and then as she tried to run away it bit her quite badly on the top of her Right leg. She had to go to hospital to have stitches, tetanus injections and antibiotics. Since being home the antibiotics have made her ill and she is having trouble sitting down etc.It only hurts when she laughs!

Goodbye George.

Today we said goodbye to our friend George. The church was overflowing with standing room only and a friend of the family gave a very nice eulogy. Then it was off to the new crematorian at Alford to say a final farewell. We shall miss him he was a good bloke!

stormy weather

Last night there was a tremendous storm with torrential rain that went on all night. It was still chucking it down when I let the girls out but now the sun has just come out. Graham says that this mornings weather will have boosted holiday sales as this is when you long for some sun.
Graham bought me some "Parched Peas" for my birthday. These are a Lancashire delicacy, In fact most famous in Preston along with "butter pies." The trouble is they take 36 hours to cook. I am halfway through the process now and I hope to have some ready for tomorrows coffee morning when I shall attempt to sell them by the jar.I hope they will turn out as good as the ones they sell by the cup in Preston Market.
Otherwise life is pretty boring.
we have opened a gate into the field next door and have let the girls go through into it now that the Barley has been harvested. They refuse to come back when called as the field is like an adventure playground. The only thing that gets them is sweetcorn so when I really want them to come in then I show them the box and the run in like maniacs.
Yesterday one of the girls looked a bit peaky so I decided to lock her in the shed. After an hour I relented and went to let her out. She had laid an egg without a shell. It was really weird! I'm glad I found it though as I don't want the others to get a taste for eggs!

lovely birthday

Saturday's judging was different to say the least. It started off very pleasantly with small mouthfulls of lovely cake but it soon became tedious and after about 50 cakes I was feeling positively Queesy! When I had finished judging I was invited to partake of lunch!! needless to say the lure of roast Beef was easy to resist. I was asked if I would do it again next year and I said yes without thinking.!!
Well we have been in Lancashire at Gina's for my birthday and we have had a good time. I thought after Saturday I could never eat another cake but it's like giving birth, you soon forget the pain! We bought a birthday cake that was for 16 portions ( there were only 4 of us!) and I assure you that I ate my share.
My chickens rushed to me when we came home. I think they missed me although they have been very well cared for by our kind neighbours.
I am pleased to see that S&S are back blogging. I've missed them.
Good to hear that Sophie and Billy are back home ok.
