deserted duck.

Another performance last night when every one of the hens went in the big hut leaving Ed the duck quacking aimlessly around the garden. Again we threw a towel over her and put her in the duckery after a chase. The chicks survived the night in the big hut but two of them have been fighting all day and it's real blood and gore stuff. I have had to separate them several times. We are pretty much convinced that these two must be cockerels and so will have to be necked if we can't find a home for at least one of them.
The weather has been glorious today. Could be the Mediterranean!
gina and andrew are back from Crete having had a lovely time.

Weird !!

Well before I get on to the football I need to tell you about something really weird that happened today. Graham and I were outside having a snooze in the shade. It was absolutely boiling hot. There wasn't a breath of wind and the only sound was of the hens clucking. Very relaxiong.
Suddenly, from out of nowhere, came a tornado which blew Grahams hat off and almost took his sunbed. It lasted about half a minute and no sooner had we gathered ourselves then it was gone, leaving two pensioners gasping in it's wake! Never in 64 years have I experienced anything like it!

And so to the other thing that has left us gasping. The England team are a disgrace to themselves and to us their fans. I don't care what their excuses are. If you are fortunate enough to be picked to play for your country then it is a great honour that has been bestowed upon you and you should run until you can't run another inch and be glad.We have another four years to wait now until the next world cup. as Graham says " We might not be around then!"

On a lighter note.. Ed the duck has been abandoned by his mother who has started roosting with the other hens. Ed is refusing to go in the duckery, so because we don't want mr fox to get her.we have had a real performance trying to catch her. graham eventually threw a towel over her and carried her in. Phew!!!

Ed the duck

I suppose we should be calling her Edwina now as she is almost certainly a female although we don't know for sure yet.As you can see she is almost as big as her "mother" and except at night when she cries if they are seperated, she does her own thing.

too big now

The chicks used to sleep under their mother but they are so big now that only one can get under so the other two have to take their chances.

horrible day

What a horrible day it has been. It has never stopped raining and it has been dark and gloomy all day. My chickens are all bedraggled and the only one enjoying it is Ed the duck. He thinks it's glorious and is splashing about in his pool as though there is no tomorrow.
Have just spoken to my sister in Sheffield. She's doing well after having her leg amputated but I am dismayed to find out that she won't get a false leg for at least 6 months. She is also on a waiting list for a stair lift as she hasn't been upstairs for three years. Had I been rich I could have paid for all these things but I am like a church mouse!
Only four days before the world cup starts. Yippee! I don't think England will do very well but one can always have hope until they are knocked out.
thats all for now. Life is pretty boring.

Another glorious day.

Yesterday we went with our friends A&V to Brigg. The chicken auctions at the farmers market were almost finished by the time we got there but after a saunter around we went into Brigg town centre where we were pleasantly surprised, having never been before. we ate fish, chips and mushy peas at an outside table so as not to miss the lovely weather and so we could watch all the goings on . Then having resolved to stay outdoors, we repaired to the pub! After that we had a look at the river scenic walk and drove home the scenic route across the wolds. Lovely!

Janey Cutler

I have just watched the semi final of "Britains got talent". There was an 80yr old Scottish working class lady who had me in tears. She sang "this is my life" and honestly she was better then Shirley Bassey! Such a voice and such a love of life! If she doesn't win then I will never watch it again!
