Black Treacle Cake.

Now here by popular demand.....my recipe for Black Treacle cake.
FOR THE CAKE.

5oz butter
5oz Sugar
3 tablespoons Black Treacle
2 eggs
8 oz self Raising flour
2 tablespoons milk'

FOR THE TOPPING
1 oz Butter
1 tablespoon Black treacle
I tablespoon Milk
6 oz Icing sugar

METHOD
Line and grease an 8 inch tin (square is best)
Cream butter, sugar and Treacle until light and fluffy.
gradually add beaten Eggs.(adding a bit of flour if it looks like curdling)
Fold in the flour and milk
Put in tin and bake in a pre heated moderate oven for approximately 1 Hour or until an inserted skewer comes out clean.
cool on a wire rack.
Cream together the topping and put on cake.

Have you been to Rotterdam yet?
The cake sounds wonderful. Will have to buy some black treacle though. Would it work with ordinary treacle?

Doubt I will find black treacle here. What makes it black?
