This is a plant that Karen bought me when I was 60. It flowers all the time and was like this when we came back from America in January. I love the colour.

Think on this!
research has shown that:-
Women do Two Thirds of the worlds work.
They earn One Tenth of the words wages.
And they own only One Hundredth of the worlds properties.

Today's quote.
I saw this quote whilst reading the paper this morning and it has been in my head all day.How true is this? " Evil is not the absence of righteousness but the absence of empathy"
Just been watching Britains got talent. It's an amazing show as the acts are not as manufactured as the others such as the X factor etc. Anyway I was impressed by a singer called Madonna and I predict great things for her.
marysue, don't work too hard on the room painting. It's more important to make some bread!

It made me laugh!
In bed last night, reading Bill Bryson's "The short history of nearly everything" I laughed aloud
when I read "He was exceedingly bright but untroubled by anything as inconvenient as a scruple ". This sounds very much like someone I know!
The weather today is nithering. I want to go to the shops but daren't go out!

Gainsborough.
This morning I googled for the nearest branch of Marks and Spencer. It was either at Grimsby or Gainsborough. As we go to Grimsby sometimes we thought it might make a change to go to Gainsborough and make it a day out. Well yes, there was a Marks and Spencers at Gainsborough
when we got there but it turned out to be only a food outlet so that was a wasted journey as I wanted shoes! However on walking around the town we found a shop that was selling wine at a third of the price of any other shop that we know of so of course we decided to save some money by buying a few bottles!! I bought Martini at £3.99. later when we called at Morrisons the same bottle was £7.99 .
Phone call to my neighbour. They were all supposed to be going to London tomorrow. Her son had booked them into a hotel, booked flights on the London Eye and booked two shows in the west end as well as first class rail tickets etc. However they can't go as George has been ill since Sunday. They are all so disapointed.
Graham has more or less recovered from his misadventure of Tuesday but I am still suffering from stabbing myself in the hand. Gina can't believe that someone could be stupid enough to try to prise a bottle top off with a pair of scissors. Not until Andrew told her that he once tried to get the sauce bottle lid off with a hatchet!!!
Not much else to report. I am going great guns with my family tree but am going to wait until winter before paying to go further. It is so time consuming.
A lot of wildlife activity when we were coming over the wolds. some of the birds we can't identify
and off course there is always a lot of road kill. Anyway the birds are all very busy getting the nests ready.

Poor Postman!
A somewhat rude awakening this morning by an impatient postman. He was bringing me this book that has been sent to me by my nephew in Kansas. I did half read it before when we were in Kansas but I shall give it my undivided attention ( Just as soon as I have finished wading through Bill Bryson's "The history of almost everything") and will let you know what I think of the ideas he promulgates.
Yesterday was a bit disasterish again. First the water pressure needle was dangerously in the red on the central heating boiler. Edward ( of bowling club fame) came along and mended it in no time. Then Graham came into the house dripping blood everywhere. Once again he has fallen off a ladder. This time he hit his head on the lawn and not on concrete but he has a cut on every finger. A huge graze on the back of his leg and a large cut on his elbow along with various other
cuts and bruises. I then rang Gina to tell her and was scolded in no uncertain terms for allowing
him to climb ladders in view of what happened last time!! Protestations that I didn't know he was up a ladder fell on deaf ears! I should be watching him at all times!
It's lovely weather just now so I might have a walk on the sea front.

the taming of the shrew!
I forgot to tell you that every time I take the peelings etc to the compost bin, two little eyes, like shiny buttons, look at me before darting away. Don't they have cute little pointy noses?

disaster strikes!
We have had hardly any sleep last night. When I came back from the W.I. I found that the toilet was blocked. At midnight we went out into the pitch black night to discover that the whole bathroom system was blocked and the excess water was overflowing into the garden. What a mess! We naturally tried to plunge it etc but only made it worse. we poured bleach, Bi Carb and other cleaning fluid all around to no avail. Then we went to bed but couldn't sleep. I was afraid that the waste would back up into the dishwasher and washing machine, both of which were going, so decided to get up and wait for them to finish their cycles. Well......have you ever been waiting for something? It takes hours!! Eventually about 2.30am we retired to the bedroom but didn't sleep for ages. Anyway I phoned the drain man Dave at 8am and he came soon after. He did his best but he wasn't able to get to where the blockage was so he and Graham had to dig away some concrete. Hurrah!! with a mighty swoosh the blockage was gone and now we can use the bathroom again. However...We are now waiting for a builder to come. It looks as though we will have to have a complete new drainage system!
Graham is naturally suicidal. Why does he insist on believing that bad things only happen to us?
Anyway he is going bowling now so that might cheer him up a bit.
